The official unveiling of the 2025 Ram 1500 REV, an all-electric full-size pickup, took place at the New York International Auto Show. This production model, which will be available initially in a crew-cab configuration with a short bed, is more conventional in appearance than the concept versions were. In fact, aside from the numerous LED lights and distinctive nose, the look of the REV (which stands for “revolution”) is closer to that of the gasoline-powered Ram 1500. However, it promises to be revolutionary in other ways.
The 2025 Ram 1500 REV: a notch above
The 2025 Ram 1500 REV is sure to shake up the competition. With exceptional power, range and towing capacity, the REV is set to send a serious message.
It rewrites the rules for electric light-duty trucks, beginning with a choice of two batteries. The first (168 kWh) equips the more standard versions. This battery gives the powertrain the equivalent of 654 horsepower, generating 620 pound-feet of torque during long trips (of up to 560 km per charge).
The game-changer will no doubt be the available second battery, a large 229 kWh model. This translates into staggering performance: a range of up to 800 km on a single charge, a whopping 14,000-pound tow rating, a payload capacity of 2,700 pounds and the ability to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds.
It’s worth mentioning that this power will go to all four wheels (as AWD comes standard) and that the vehicle will offer four-wheel steering for increased maneuverability. Another notable feature is the adjustable pneumatic suspension, which can increase ground clearance for off-roading or lower it for improved fuel economy on the highway (and for easier loading).
The 2024 Ram 1500 REV should go on sale in the fall of 2024.
Aiming for new records in range
The maker of the Ram 1500 EV also intends to produce an extended-range model: the REV XR. Although the details aren’t yet available, it appears that the design will include an auxiliary internal combustion engine. The sole purpose of this motor, which would be located in the “frunk,” would be to charge the battery in order to increase the vehicle’s range.
