With the 2025 model, the Jeep Cherokee will enter its sixth generation. In 2022, the automaker, which has gone by the name of Stellantis since the merger of Fiat-Chrysler and PSA in 2021, decided to electrify several of its most iconic vehicles. After the Jeep Wrangler, Grand Cherokee (PHEV) and Wagoneer (MHEV), it could very well be the Cherokee’s turn.
The Jeep Cherokee 4-by-4, which originally entered the market in 1974, will undergo a metamorphosis and, in the future, will be available exclusively in the form of PHEV or fully electric models. In fact, production of the traditional model ceased last February, so we might see the arrival of the new electrified Jeeps by the end of next year.
A new platform for the 2025 Jeep Cherokee
The 2025 Jeep Cherokee (code name: Jeep KM) will feature an all-new platform that can adapt to various component arrangements. What’s more, Stellantis intends to market and sell a wide range of vehicles thanks to four “BEV-centric” platforms (STLA Small, Medium, Large and Frame), three electric drive modules (EDM) and two different battery chemistries. The 2025 Cherokee EV would utilize the STLA Large platform, giving it a maximum range of 800 km in theory. However, the actual range may be lower, depending on the final body style and aerodynamics.
This type of platform (which integrates the battery) offers designers a great deal of flexibility in terms of wheel size, suspension height, vehicle width, cabin volume and more. As a result, the Cherokee should offer impressive head- and legroom.
It will remain a true Jeep
We assume that the EV version or versions of the 2025 Jeep Cherokee will have two standard electric motors, enabling them to offer all-wheel drive. Considering the vehicle’s orientation, reputation and weight, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if we see the overall power surpass 350 hp. There’s a strong possibility that clients will have more than one option in terms of power, in addition to a wealth of equipment for off-road driving.
According to diverse sources, the battery powering the Cherokee EV’s motors will have a gross energy storage capacity ranging from 101 to 118 kWh. It might only take 20 minutes to recharge it to 80 percent in fast-charge mode.
